Becoming Poison Ivy | Halloween Collection 2015

Hi beauties!

I am so bad when it comes to blogging. I seriously designate time out of my week to do it but I am seriously slack. It’s now Halloween time and I have been busy! This year for Halloween I really wanted to steer away from the typical grotesque and gore styled looks but rather focus on characters themes. One of my most favourite films in the whole history of the world is the 1997 Batman & Robin film starring George Clooney, Uma Thurman, Arnie and many more. I know better than some how bad it is today, but back when I was 5, it was seriously epic. My brother and I would recite the lines and know the choreography to all of the moves. I know — lame.

This movie is one of my first memories of falling in love with makeup. I remember looking at Uma Thurman in one of her seductive scenes where she was wearing an orange lipstick over a fuchsia lip liner and of course, a super high sheen.  You can see the clip here. I remember looking at all of the colours on Thurman’s skin and just being mesmerised —  also she had killer nails.

I have been dying to do a replica of this makeup since I was about 10 and started experimenting with makeup. Finally, this year, 2015, Shenai Marks got to be Poison Ivy TWICE!!! WOOOO!!! I bought an 80cm wine red wig from the lovely people at S H Best Deals on eBay who were so quick with their delivery, this is not sponsored, I really do just love them. They were honest about their products and allowed me to do an express delivery which just made life so much easier. I’m so grateful to these lovely people!! Moving on… I bought the wig and wrapped myself up in a series of fake vine leaves and flowers from a dollar shop and got shooting. This was the final result…

I had so much fun shooting this character. She is fun, flirty and bright. I donned my wig, my brightest green earrings and of course my high shine gold, yellow, orange and green eyeshadow. In the film Ivy is always wearing bold and bright colours such as reds and oranges, however I chose to do more of the green and yellow look so that the hair and lips were the feature. I definitely made sure to fill in my eyebrows so that they were bright red. In the film she has more taupe/red brows, very dramatic and high on the forehead in a very drag-like style, so I wanted to keep this one more realistic.

So, funny story while shooting this look. It was much easier for me to just wear the wig and the vines seeing as it was VERY hot under there. If you are aware of filming or shooting, you will know that natural light is nearly always best; I agree. In my bedroom I have one large window which lets in a significant amount of light and fortunately, I also have studio lights – thank the Lord for those!! So in order to get the natural light in, one must open their curtains, yes? Of course. So here I am, in my wig and in my vines with the window wide open, music playing, and I’m flitting about posing in front of my camera for the whole world to see. Guess who forgot that windows are two-way?! Yep, me. Whoops! Sorry to the old man on the scooter outside my house, you definitely got more than what you bargained for when you looked in the window.

It was my dear friends’ 21st birthday over the weekend, and bless him, he had a 90’s themed birthday party. I was in my element. I donned my wig and makeup – also my clothes this time 😉 – and had some of the best fun. If you are going to wear this look out this Halloween and can’t find a badass costume (much like myself), I suggest getting a sexy black dress, getting some vines from your local dollar shop and wrapping yourself up in those. I wore a body-con asymmetrical dress with black fishnets and bright green heels which totally completed the look. If you can find an awesome body suit with a sheer green cape, go for it, but if you’re stuck and all of the op-shops have absolutely nothing you can work with, I highly suggest the LBD.

Alrighty my lovelies, I am going to stop rambling and I shall wish you all of the very best for Halloween and for the rest of the week! Have fun, be bold, be beautiful, be yourself and be confident in who you are and who you were made to be. I might not know you personally, but please know that you are so loved and I am always here willing to talk and get to know you. You are beautiful and I love you very much.

Love, S.
