Melted Face | Light & Shade Halloween Collection

After doing 3 versions of “pretty” Halloween makeup this year, I decided to end the Light & Shade Halloween Collection with some gruesome SFX makeup.

Isaac was my model/actor, he was very patient and flexible working with me.

I knew I wanted to do something different and hadn’t been done on my page before, I nearly did another cut throat or a severely deformed zombie, however after re-watching the Game of Thrones series, I fell in love with the makeup of The Hound. I loved the way the makeup artists scarred his face so brilliantly and it didn’t look melodramatic. It seemed easy enough to recreate. I just needed some liquid latex and some flesh colours, but then my ideas transformed, in the true spirit of Halloween.  I decided I wanted to have it look as though the actors’ wounds had started to heal, but with specific movements and expressions, the blisters and scabs would come apart, stretching the newly healed skin and forcing it to split in certain areas.

Melted Face

I wanted to have the right side of his face so badly melted and wounded that it had covered his eye, giving him a villainous and deformed look. He had to be unrecognisable when you look at him from one side. I chose to have the corner of his lip peeling and cracking as well, seeing as it would be severely painful to have conversations with people and showing expression. I wanted to remain true to the wounds as they would be in real life, to some degree at least.

I wanted a severe contrast between the left and right side of his face to show the beauty of the past and the horror that is his present day.

I used Mehron Liquid Latex and Mehron Bruise Wheel to layer the fake skin and the burnt flesh colours.

Light & Shade Halloween Collection: #2

Hi beautiful ones!

I wanted to do a look for Halloween that was a tad more wearable.
Say, for example, if you are going to a party or a club and you didn’t want to be a zombie or something ugly, you could wear this look.

I wanted something that was clearly a butterfly-inspired colour scheme. I bought the Models’ Prefer Butterfly Wings Paper lashes months ago and I have been anxiously waiting for a chance to use them.

I wanted this look to be pretty with elements of dark drama, hence the dark purples and dramatic winged liner, however I still wanted it to be girly and pretty, hence the gold lids and rosy cheeks.

Personally, I would wear a less dramatic look like this out on a regular night out, but the paper lashes are definitely something dramatic that should be kept for a special event.

I bought my Models’ Prefer paper lashes at my local Priceline, I’m sure you can too!

Light & Shade Halloween Collection: Shoot #1

What a fun day this was!

I had a dream that was very similar to Hunger Games but with a dash of Native American flair. The world had gone in to extreme devastation due to another world war and it was as though only the remote tribal villages were left.

This dream was the inspiration for this photo-shoot. I wanted to include it within my Halloween Collection because I haven’t done something that doesn’t involve SFX, blood and gore. This can have scratches and wounds added to it and it can also be interpreted in many different ways.

My models are very athletic as well as being very beautiful, which is why I chose them. The girls didn’t have matching costumes, I wanted one to be more of a traditional hunter while the other was an assassin-type character.

I also wanted there to be flashes of animal print. I knew that it would emphasise the idea of hunters and scavengers.

I love these images, they are my favourites from the day and I hope you enjoy them too.
